Travelling in Hong Kong: Lantau Island

The second morning in Hong Kong we chosen up our passports total with our new Chinese Visas! The two page-sized stickers mark the 80th stamp on our passports, as well as that’s just from this trip! Our passports from our last trip were expired so they’re packed away somewhere. looking at our passports now is looking back on almost 16 months of extensive as well as exciting, great as well as frustrating, incredible as well as astonishing TRAVEL. Pure TRAVEL.

We’ve liked every minute of it as well as it’s not over yet.  That small Chinese Visa sticker reminds us that there’s one more country, one more month as well as many more experiences still to be had before we modification our way of life as well as begin our lives LIVING abroad. before China we still had to surface up Hong Kong, so we decided to head over to Lantau Island to inspect out the world’s largest seated bronze Buddha.

We’ve seen lots of Buddhas in our day now, we’ve seen the tallest Buddha, the largest gold-plated Buddha, the largest reclining Buddha…. just about all the Buddha we can handle. We understand Buddha so well that we have provided him a nickname, we phone call him Boods. most likely a nickname that the monks wouldn’t authorize of, however have they seen all the largest Buddhas as well as understand him like us? Unlikely. We took the amazingly effective metro line again, this time around all the method to Lantau Island.

When we shown up on the island, so did the poor weather. It seems to comply with us lately however it stopped bothering us now. Without the cloud cover, walking around town would be as well hot, so we appreciate the clouds as long as they don’t rain on us. Which is what they started doing when we got close to the huge bronze Boods. luckily when we reached the top of the 100 or so stairs to reach Buddha, the clouds parted as well as the rain let up, just long sufficient for us to get a couple of photos. even though we’ve seen a great deal of Boods in our day, this was still impressive. Seated atop a serene as well as tranquil hill overlooking a vast valley as well as a meticulously carved monastery, the only thing that took away from the experience was the Chinese tour groups.

As we were leaving the huge bronze Buddha, one of the tour guides saw us without a group as well as must have presumed we were lost as well as scared. She rushed over to us as well as exclaimed in a loud, comical accent that we needed to go to the Kung Fu Monk show. We discovered that Buddha’s bones have been transported to Hong Kong for the very first time in numerous years, so to celebrate the monastery put on a show of their techniques.

We went in expecting some cheesy fake Kung Fu show however it ended up being spectacular! It was a mix between Cirque de Soleil as well as The Karate Kid. There were some incredible acrobatics, some weapons presentations as well as guys were breaking steel beams on their foreheads. Not at all the zen environment one would expect when entering a Buddhist temple, however entertaining nonetheless.

By the time the show was over, the rain returned as well as we rushed back to the bus as well as made our method back to Kowloon. By the time we got back to town it was dark as well as time to go see the light show. The south shores of Kowloon point across the Victoria Harbour towards the spectacular lights of the Hong Kong skyline. The routine lights on the buildings were sufficient to thrill any type of cityscape lover, however the Hong Kongers like to step it up a notch with a lot of colour altering LEDs.

The show was gone along with by some distorted music which was belted out by an eccentric college student. The genuine draw to the location is its setting on the harbour as well as its long, cobblestoned “Avenue Of The Stars”, a Hong Kongers handle Hollywood’s version total with Bruce Lee as well as Jackie Chan; although we couldn’t discover their stars since their genuine names are nothing close to their American ones.

All in all Hong Kong was great. We like cities as well as this was one of the biggest, cleanest, as well as organized cities we’ve been to. It has whatever a person might requirement as well as more as well as its setting on the water provides all of its shores a dazzling high quality that are unique to this metropolitan archipelago. With so many islands we definitely only got a taste for Hong Kong, however with it being such a major Oriental transfer hub, I’m sure we’ll be back to see more.
