Living in Grenada – Our Caribbean Paradise (With Video)

As if out of nowhere, the sea abruptly ended as well as land appeared under the wheels of our aircraft. The airplane carefully touched down on the tarmac as well as we both looked at each other with big smiles, we had lastly shown up in Grenada as well as we were about to see our temporary dream house for the next 7 months.

It was a long journey, travelling by boat, car, bus as well as airplane to get from Belize to Grenada. when we shown up at the small flight terminal as well as were greeted by our furry buddy as well as his owners, we understood that pet-sitting on this Caribbean island was the very best decision we might have made.

After about a 25 minute ride, our vehicle pulled into the driveway as well as even though it was dark by this point, we understood the residential or commercial property was stunning. The dim veranda lamps, twinkling stars as well as bright moon guided us with the pathway to our home.

We were shown to our elegant cottage as well as provided a quick run-down, before being left alone to settle in as well as enjoy the great spread of food that was awaiting us! We were both starving from our journey as well as were extremely grateful for the incredible meal that was prepared on the table: fish pie as well as lobster salad with tasty sides, ice cream with freshly grated nutmeg on top, rum punch drinks as well as a bottle of red wine. Such a wonderful welcome from the owners!

What a wonderful welcome!
Buzzing from enjoyment (and booze) we unloaded our backpacks, threw our clothes on the bed as well as started setting up our home. We were thrilled to have somewhere to hang our clothes for the next few months; it’s the bit things in life that make us nomads happy!

It doesn’t take much to please us! So happy to unpack
This home / pet-sit is different from a typical task we would be offered. These owners have 5 villas on a stunning piece of land. instead of sleeping in their personal home, they have selected the “Honeymoon House” for us to reside in while we take care of their divine dog, Spare. The cottage, as well as the residential or commercial property it sits on, are both perfect.

Looking out from the bathroom

Our four-poster bed stands comfortably in the primary space of the cottage, with a small corner sitting area next to it. A dark wood day-bed as well as a desk with a chair likewise provide the room. White, see-through linen curtains hang over the windows as well as doors, while bamboo framed mirrors as well as regional artwork decorate the walls.

The bathroom is separated into two: one space has the toilet as well as sink, while the other has the shower with a tiled floor as well as bamboo towel rack!

It’s nice to have the toilet separate from the shower
The front veranda is a lovely location to sit as well as enjoy a drink or a meal. The area is fly screened (which is a godsend when the mosquitoes are out) as well as has a table for two as well as a little couch. Spare’s food bowls as well as bed likewise occupy our front room!

The kitchen area is rustic, fly screened as well as has wood panels that we can turn available to let the breeze waft through, or close if it’s raining. We have a 4 burner gas stove, fridge, microwave, sink as well as all of the dishes as well as utensils we might need.

The kitchen area is the perfect size for us
Having a fly screened, open-air veranda as well as kitchen really makes it feel like we’re outside, even though we’re inside…which we love! In the mornings we watch bit lizards scurry about on the outside of the screens as well as in the evenings we can hear nothing however crickets, frogs as well as some other loud, high-pitched, unidentified bug!

A lovely view from our front door in the morning
Local fishermen bring their everyday catch as much as the shores, which so far has included fresh parrot fish, conch as well as lobster. We’re waiting on some snapper, baraccuda or grouper before we buy any!

We’re lucky to have the fishermen bring their catch to our beach!
The area is peaceful as well as peaceful. The bay is calm as well as totally risk-free for swimming. There’s a little island just offshore (which we can swim to) that is really a bird sanctuary! surrounding the bay are mangroves, rich vegetation as well as rocky shores.

A fantastic location to enjoy breakfast..see the bit bird sanctuary island out there?

The grounds that the villas sit on are a overall paradise. There’s an onsite restaurant with treetop dining as well as ocean side tables as well as chairs as well, the perfect location for a morning coffeeor evening beer!

Sweet smelling flowers, tropical fruit trees as well as herbs line the property. right now we’re able to enjoy fresh almonds, lemongrass, star fruit, coconuts as well as basil. soon the mangoes, guava as well as bananas will ripen, we can’t wait!

We can’t wait on the mangoes to ripen!

Not only are the plants, trees, flowers as well as fruit bright as well as colourful, however we’re able to enjoy some wildlife also – a few of which I’d rather not see (like centipedes, cockroaches as well as mosquitoes!), however the others are a joy to watch.

High speed hummingbirds flutter their wings outside our door as we sip our morning coffees. We area bit lizards everywhere as well as if we’re lucky, a gecko or iguana from time to time. colourful caterpillars slowly crawl up the tree branches as well as although detrimental to the trees, they’re beautiful. Throughout the day, sing-song birds serenade us from the treetops as well as larger birds (egrets as well as herons to name a couple) stand in the shallows searching for fish.

Pretty, however not great for the trees
Our primary task is to look after Spare, our lively pooch. He’s able to run free around the residential or commercial property as well as even though he’s a beach dog at heart, he’s extremely well-behaved. He sleeps in our home every night as well as likes to hangout with us while we blog on the upstairs veranda. He seldom barks however he always keeps the residential or commercial property risk-free for us (he’s a perfect guard dog). The only issue we have with spare is that a person day we understand we have to state goodbye to him. Seriously… exactly how adorable is he?!

The most adorable dog, Spare
Needless to say, we like being surrounded by all of this natural beauty.

We’re thrilled to phone call Grenada house for the next 7 months. We have about 7 weeks off in between our pet-sitting duties as well as we may stay right here enjoying this great country, or we may take off as well as go island-hopping with the Grenadines! We’ll see…

Stay tuned for more about living in Grenada.
